Leoric, the Skeleton King, is a melee warrior hero from the Diablo universe.[1] Madness. Betrayal. Death. These are the legacy of the Black King Leoric's reign. Driven to madness by the spirit of Diablo, Leoric brought untold suffering on his kingdom. Even after his death there was no release for the Skeleton King.
Leoric is a slow moving front-line warrior that never truly dies, haunting the battlefield as a ghost before reforming on the field.[2]
Background
At the behest of the Zakarum church, Leoric traveled from Kehjistan to Khanduras and declared himself king. Acting on counsel from his trusted advisor, Archbishop Lazarus, Leoric established his seat of power in the town of Tristram. He eventually won the hearts and minds of his subjects, and ruled as a wise and just king for many years.
Lazarus convinced Leoric to settle in Tristram because he knew Diablo was imprisoned beneath Tristram's cathedral - and after Lazarus released Diablo, the demon tried to possess Leoric. Weakened due to his long imprisonment, Diablo only succeeded in driving Leoric mad. The king grew irrational and paranoid, and declared war against the neighboring kingdom of Westmarch. Lazarus brought the king's youngest son, Albrecht, into the labyrinth so Diablo could use him as a host instead. The loss of his son made Leoric's madness worse, and he began torturing and executing innocent citizens.
Lachdanan, the captain of Leoric's knights, returned from the war in Westmarch with only a few ragged survivors. Finding the kingdom in disarray and its people gripped by terror, Lachdanan confronted Leoric and was ultimately forced to kill him. Lachdanan and his men buried their king in the tombs beneath the cathedral, but Diablo raised Leoric from the dead as the Skeleton King.
Albrecht's older brother, Aidan, eventually vanquished the monster their father had become. Twenty-two years later, the Fallen Star that struck Tristram's cathedral reawakened Leoric's spirit. At Deckard Cain's behest, the Nephalem retrieved Leoric's old crown and used it to bind his spirit to his skeletal remains, allowing them to confront and defeat him.
Abilities
Talents
Skeletal Swing's cooldown is reduced by 2 seconds. Enemy Heroes hit heal Leoric for 4% of his maximum Health.
- Baseline cooldown reduction from hitting a Hero is applied after base reduction from Consume Vitality.
When a nearby friendly or enemy Minion dies, Leoric restores 1.25% of his maximum Health and 6 Mana.
Cooldown: 120 seconds
Active: Activate to heal Leoric for 30% of his maximum Health over 5 seconds. Regeneration Globes lower the cooldown of this Ability by 20 seconds.
Increase the range of Skeletal Swing by 25%.
Increase the Slow of Skeletal Swing by 20%.
Skeletal Swing deals 75% additional damage to Mercenaries and Monsters, and hitting them activates Skeletal Swing's cost and cooldown refund.
- Damage bonus stacks additively with other offensive damage modifiers that can affect Skeletal Swing's damage.
Increase the healing from Drain Hope to 25% of Leoric's maximum Health. If Drain Hope lasts its full duration, Leoric instantly heals for an additional 5% of his maximum Health.
Drain Hope no longer reduces Leoric's Movement Speed. If Drain Hope lasts its full duration, gain 30% Movement Speed for 4 seconds.
Increase the range of Drain Hope by 25%.
Cooldown: 50 seconds
Create an unpassable tomb for 4 seconds.
Cooldown: 50 seconds
Leoric becomes Unstoppable and walks forward, swinging his mace 3 times. Enemies hit take 250 damage, and Heroes hit heal Leoric for 12% of his maximum Health.
Drain Hope's cooldown is reduced by 0.75 seconds for every 1 second it is active. If Drain Hope lasts its full duration, its cooldown is reduced by an additional 2 seconds.
Increase Wraith Walk's duration by 100%. Enemy Heroes that come in contact with the wraith deal 50% less damage for 4 seconds.
- Damage reduction stacks additively with other offensive damage modifiers affecting the target Hero's damage output.
Basic Attacks against enemy Heroes deal bonus damage equal to 2.5% of the Hero's maximum Health and heal Leoric for twice that amount.
- Only affects the primary target of the Basic Attack.
- Only heals for twice the bonus damage actually dealt (relevant if the target has less than 2.5% of maximum Health remaining).
If Drain Hope lasts its full duration, it instantly deals an additional 15% of the target's maximum Health as damage. This damage does not heal Leoric.
Wraith Walk increases the damage of the next Skeletal Swing within 5 seconds by 50%. Each enemy Hero hit by this Skeletal Swing reduces the cooldown of Wraith Walk by 7 seconds.
- Stacks additively with other offensive damage modifiers affecting Skeletal Swing's damage.
Increase Leoric's Attack Speed by 20%.
❢ Repeatable Quest: Nearby enemy Minion deaths grant 0.3% permanent Attack Speed, and Takedowns grant 3% permanent Attack Speed, up to 30%.
- Leoric can gain stacks while Undying.
The duration of Entomb is lowered by 1 second, but enemies trapped inside are Silenced and take 50 damage every 1 second.
- Because of the relatively low tickrate, it is possible for e.g. Lúcio to High Five in and Cleanse targets, without it being canceled by being Silenced on the way in, if timed correctly.
The final swing of March of the Black King also applies Drain Hope to nearby enemy Heroes.
- 1) Extended by Leoric's unit radius.
- Movement speed bonuses from multiple instances of Drain Momentum do not stack.
- Hopelessness does not affect the initial radius of Death March application. Only the active range is increased.
- Death March fully interacts with all other Talents affecting Drain Hope.
- Drain Hopes applied to a target before they change states may remain on them in some cases (e.g. D.Va before she uses Self-Destruct).
Deal 40 damage per second to nearby enemies.
While Drain Hope is active, gain 40 Armor and the damage and area is increased by 100%.
- Damage from Burning Despair is unaffected by external offensive damage modifiers, doesn't trigger lifesteal effects and doesn't draw tower aggro from A Call For Help.
- Does not stack with other positive Armor effects. Other defensive damage modifiers may stack.
Cooldown: 25 seconds
Active: Activate to become Protected for 3 seconds, preventing all damage.

- In the closing seconds of the Feature Trailer from BlizzCon 2014, Leoric can be seen throwing his crown into the air, catching it, then placing it back on his head.[7]
- Leoric was added to the game on July 21, 2015, as part of the Eternal Conflict event.

- The first tint of Leoric's God King palette resembles Skovald, the primary antagonist of the Stormheim story in World of Warcraft: Legion.
- Space Lord Leoric is based on the Sith Lords of the Star Wars franchise.[8]
