Hero Quote Audio Background
Emoji Artanis Pack 1 Artanis Happy.png

  • Zeratul: En Taro Tassadar, Hierarch Artanis.
  • Artanis: Anan pokahl.
Artanis is Hierarch of the Daelaam, or unified protoss, and over the course of the Great War and Brood War the two became close friends as they overcame their racial biases. Even after Zeratul went into self-imposed exile, the two held a great respect for one another.
  • Artanis: It brings me great joy to see you, old friend.
  • Zeratul: As ever, my blade is yours Hierarch.
Emoji Arthas Pack 1 Arthas Meh.png

  • Zeratul: I sense in you a darkness, that will consume all worlds.
  • Arthas: How perceptive of you.
Both Zeratul and Arthas wield forces of darkness, Arthas the necrotic magic of the Shadowlands and Zeratul the energies of the Void. However, Arthas uses these powers for conquest, while Zeratul uses them to defend his people.
  • Arthas: I see you wield the darkness as I do.
  • Zeratul: No, never as you do.
Emoji Kerrigan Pack 1 Kerrigan Happy.png

  • Zeratul: Kerrigan, I hope your anger will not become a liability.
  • Kerrigan: Let your blade do the talking, Zeratul.
Kerrigan and Zeratul have a long history, as Kerrigan hunted Zeratul across Char, then manipulated him into fighting the Renegade Zerg for her, later forcing him to kill his leader, Matriarch Raszagal, only letting him live to let him suffer. Even after this, when Zeratul discovered Kerrigan was the key to defeating the fallen xel'naga Amon, Zeratul reluctantly aided her.
  • Kerrigan: Ready for some fun, Zeratul?
  • Zeratul: You and I interpret this 'fun' very differently.
Emoji Murky Pack 1 Murky Happy.png

  • Zeratul: Curious. What type of creature are you?
  • Murky: <Response indicating he is excited and ready to fight>
  • Murky: <Playfully questioning the person next to him>
  • Zeratul: Do not let vengeance consume you, young one.
Being a protoss, Zeratul communicated through psionics, and thus can understand Murky's language,.
Emoji Raynor Pack 1 Raynor Happy.png

  • Zeratul: Friend Raynor, we have not fought together since the Great War.
  • Raynor: Man, I miss that vulture.
The Great War is the events of the first StarCraft, and in a nod to canon Zeratul and Raynor did not fight alongside one another in the next conflict of the expansion, the Brood War. In StarCraft, Raynor was most often represented as a hero vulture unit, which did not show up again in StarCraft II.
  • Raynor: Feels like old times already.
  • Zeratul: Indeed. Perhaps, too much like them.
Emoji Tassadar Pack 1 Tassadar ROFL.png

  • Zeratul: En Taro Adun, old friend.
Translation: In honor of Adun, old friend.
Language: Khalani
  • Zeratul: *Tassadar: Adun Toridas, Zeratul.
Translation: Adun hide you, Zeratul.
Language: Khalani
"En Taro Adun" is the common greeting of the Khalai protoss, Tassadar's people, while "Adun Toridas" is the greeting of the Nerazim, Zeratul's people. The two are exchanging the other race's greeting, a sign of respect for their people.
  • Tassadar: Once more, we are called to battle, Zeratul.
  • Zeratul: And we shall rise to meet it, old friend.
Tassadar and Zeratul became close friends during the Great War, overcoming a thousand years of racial biases to unite themselves against Kerrigan, and teaching Tassadar the ways of the Void. The two would later unite to defeat the Overmind, with Tassadar using what Zeratul had taught him to slay the beast.

Eliminations[edit | edit source]

Hero Quote Audio Background
vs. Illidan Go now, into the darkness that consumes you. Illidan took a demonic bargain on order to help fight the demons, thus changing him and his body. The demonic power courses through him, sometimes putting him at odds with his allies.
vs. Kerrigan For Raszagal! Matriarch Raszagal was once a loved and respected ruler of Zeratul's people, the Nerazim. However, during the Brood War, Kerrigan psionically dominated Raszagal and made the protoss her puppet, using her to manipulate Zeratul into killing the Second Overmind. However, Zeratul kidnapped her, and while surrounded Zeratul killed his leader, freeing her from Kerrigan's grasp before she died. Kerrigan let Zeratul live in order to torture the warrior, and the weight of her death remains heavy on Zeratul.
vs. Protoss hero My burdens grow heavier. The act of killing another protoss is considered an abhorrent act, even if Zeratul was forced to do it on many occasions. "My burdens weigh heavy" is one of Zeratul's select in StarCraft II.
vs. Raynor Well fought, James Raynor. Protoss often refer to Raynor as "James Raynor." Zeratul and Raynor became close friends due to Raynor's aid in killing the Overmind.
vs. Tassadar Rest now, brother. While Tassadar is not dead in the Nexus, this iteration of Zeratul saw his friend die killing the Overmind, and now wishes he rest.
vs. Zerg Suffer well, abomination. The zerg invaded the Koprulu sector and overran the protoss homeworld of Aiur, driving them from it, and nearly overwhelmed the Nerazim capital of Shakuras. They forced Zeratul to kill his leader Raszagal. As such, Zeratul despises the zerg.
vs. hero with kill streak None shall evade my wrath. " You could no more evade my wrath than you could your own shadow" is a poke quote for the dark templar unit in StarCraft.
Generic I deliver you unto the Void. The Void is a parallel dimension that the xel'naga inhabit, and from which the Nerazim pull from for many psionic powers.
Your destiny ends here.
You have chosen poorly. A reference to the line from {{wp]Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade}}, "he has chosen poorly."
The Void awaits you. The Void is a parallel dimension that the xel'naga inhabit, and from which the Nerazim pull from for many psionic powers.
Be undone. "Our enemies will be undone" is one of Zeratul's poke in StarCraft II.

You address me? One of Zeratul's select in StarCraft and StarCraft II.
I will erase the demons of the past. One of Zeratul's select in StarCraft II.
Scythes are nice, but I prefer cloak and dagger. Two different models of dark templar can spawn using the default skin in StarCraft II, the Zer'atai, which use scythes, and the Lenessa, which use a wrist blade similar to Zeratul. During StarCraft II's development, a poll was held as to which model would be used in multiplayer, and it was eventually decided that both would spawn randomly.
You'd be surprised how easy it is to sneak aboard a spaceship. A reference to the Wings of Liberty cinematic "Zeratul's Warning," where Zeratul sneaks aboard the Hyperion to give Raynor a prophecy. He would later repeat this to board Kerrigan's leviathan in Heart of the Swarm}} to give her a vision of Zerus.
Blink and you'll miss me. You get it? Because that's the power I have, blink. And humans.. you know what? Nevermind. Blink is one of Zeratul's abilities.
(sneezes) Wait, what just happened? How did I do that? As protoss have no mouths, they cannot sneeze. As protoss are psionic beings, they often communicate the thought of something to another being that would breath, such as a heavy sigh, in spite of not breathing themselves, in order to express that emotion.
Speak slowly, and carry a large warp blade. A reference to the famous quote of American president Theodore Roosevelt "walk softly and carry a big stick." A warp blade is a green Void empowered blade, which Zeratul uses.
I should use my abilities to attack enemy heroes, also, I should investigate why I talk to myself so much. During the Prophecy Arc of Wings of Liberty, many tutorials and statements are given to the player as Zeratul's stream of consciousness, which seems like him talking to himself.
I bear grave tidings. Not really, I just like saying that. A reference to the Wings of Liberty cinematic "Zeratul's Warning," where Zeratul appears to Raynor saying "I bring tidings of doom."
The darkness is my ally. But we keep it casual, the void is a jealous mistress. A reference to "the darkness" running gag that started in Warcraft III.
The prophecy fortells of a chosen one, one who will bring balance to the fo—(laughs). This is the wrong prophecy. Yeah, that was a close one. We almost got sued there. A reference to the Star Wars prequels, which contain a prophecy about Anakin Skywalker bringing balance to the Force. Zeratul meanwhile spend much of StarCraft II hunting a xel'naga prophecy.
Human anatomy is perplexing. I mean, with only one opposable digit, how would you even hold your, you know, phylar? Di– I mean no offense. In spite of Zeratul's statement, some protoss have four fingers and one opposable digit, while most have two opposable digits and three fingers. This is a genetic quirk of the species.
The shadows writhe around me. It's.. somewhat disgusting actually. Does anyone know how to get them to stop? "The darkness writhes" is a select quote for the dark templar unit in StarCraft II.
You know, sometimes I just want to step into the light. And, maybe... maybe get a hug, too. "But though we strike at you from the shadows, do not think we lack the courage to stand in the light," one of Zeratul's to Kerrigan in the StarCraft mission "Eye for an Eye."
Long, ago, an oracle of my people foresaw the arrival of a hero. One who will guide my blade to victory. Clearly, you are not that hero. Nerazim utilize some seers that can look through the strands of time to find optimal paths for their people. This is also a common fantasy myth.

Commands[edit | edit source]

Command Quote Audio Background
Move I serve the Xel'naga. The Nerazim worship the xel'naga, the race that uplifted them, as gods. Zeratul meanwhile spent much of StarCraft II in search of a xel'naga prophecy, eventually being guided along by the help of a xel'naga named Ouros, who took the guise of Tassadar.

Language: Khalani
One of Zeratul's move in StarCraft II. Translated from Khalai as "In honor of Raszagal." During the Brood War, Zeratul slew Raszagal as she was under the control of Kerrigan, and he saw that as the only way to break her influence. In spite of having no other option, her death weighed very heavily on Zeratul.
Aiur will be restored. "In the service of Aiur" is of Zeratul's move in StarCraft II. Aiur is the protoss homeworld, but by striking down the cerebrate Zasz, Zeratul touched minds with the Overmind and accidentally revealed to him the location of Aiur.
Glory to the Firstborn. One of Zeratul's move in StarCraft II. "Protoss" is Khalai for firstborn, as the protoss saw themselves as the first created by the xel'naga.
We must not hesitate. One of Zeratul's move in StarCraft II.
Attack Aru nal'adan! One of Zeratul's attack in StarCraft II.
