Hero Quote Audio Background
Emoji Alexstrasza Pack 1 Alexstrasza Happy.png

Alexstrasza

  • Jaina: Warm greetings, Lifebinder.
  • Alexstrasza: Likewise, sorceress.
  • Alexstrasza: Lady Jaina. Your magical prowess will surely be a boon to us.
  • Jaina: However I can help, Dragonqueen.
Emoji Arthas Pack 1 Arthas Meh.png

Arthas

  • Jaina: I will never forgive you for what you have done, Arthas.
  • Arthas: And I will never ask for forgiveness.
Arthas and Jaina were once involved in a romantic relationship, but while they and Uther were investigating the Plague of Undeath spreading throughout Lordaeron, Arthas gradually descended into darkness, culling the city of Stratholme, taking up the runeblade Frostmourne, becoming a death knight of the Scourge, killing his own father, and leading the Scourge as it ravaged the kingdoms of Dalaran, Lordaeron, and Quel'Thalas. As Arthas at one point told the dreadlord Tichondrius, he never felt any remorse or shame for what he did. Even years later after Arthas had become the Lich King, Jaina seemed to have not given up her love for whatever small part of her noble prince remained within the Lich King.
  • Arthas: Jaina...
  • Jaina: Do not speak to me! You may look like Arthas, but you are nothing like him!
Emoji Butcher Pack 1 Butcher Happy.png

The Butcher

  • The Butcher: (growls)
  • Jaina: Someone could use a breath mint.
Emoji Garrosh Pack 1 Garrosh Sad.png

Garrosh

  • Jaina: I have no idea what Thrall sees in you, Garrosh.
  • Garrosh: And I could say the same about you.
While Warchief Thrall was open to diplomacy between the Alliance and Horde, his warmongering successor Garrosh hated the Alliance and aggressively sought to conquer all of Kalimdor for the Horde. Garrosh would later drop a mana bomb on Jaina's city of Theramore, though the Heroes version of Jaina is from before that happened.
  • Garrosh: Be warned, human. I am nothing like Thrall.
  • Jaina: No, you are not.
Emoji Kael'thas Pack 1 Kael'thas Happy.png

Kael'thas

  • Jaina: Kael'thas.
  • Kael'thas: You've grown so cold, Jaina. Perhaps you need a fire to warm that icy heart of yours.
Prior to the Third War, Kael'thas fell in love with Jaina, but she ultimately chose Arthas over him. The first interaction here is also a reference to the fact that Jaina is a frost mage while Kael is a fire mage.
  • Kael'thas: Jaina, you could still join me. It's not too late.
  • Jaina: Kael, just stop. You know that's never going to happen.
Emoji Kel'Thuzad Pack 1 Kel'Thuzad Meh.png

Kel'thuzad

  • Jaina: If it isn't the traitor, Kel'thuzad.
  • Kel'thuzad: Ah, Antonidas' lapdog. How is he, by the way? Still dead.
Kel'Thuzad was originally a member of the Kirin Tor's Council of Six in Dalaran before becoming a necromancer and later lich in service to the Lich King. Archmage Antonidas was Jaina's mentor and the leader of the Council of Six, and the one who threatened to exile Kel'Thuzad from the Kirin Tor when his dabbling with necromancy was discovered. Antonidas and many of his magi were later killed when Arthas and Kel'Thuzad attacked Dalaran in order to claim the artifact known as the Book of Medivh.
  • Kel'thuzad: Jaina. You know the Lich King still offers you a place by his side.
  • Jaina: Never. Your day will come, lich. The alliance will see to it.
As is revealed in Wrath of the Lich King, even after becoming the Lich King, Arthas always kept a locket with Jaina's image with him, so it seems that whatever part of the original Arthas was left inside the Lich King still had feelings for Jaina and would thus likely have welcomed her joining the Scourge.
Emoji Li-Ming Pack 1 Li-Ming Happy.png

Magic User

  • Jaina: Hmm, you've got some magical talent. Think you can keep up with me?
  • Magic-using Hero: <hero dependent>
  • Magic-using Hero: <hero dependent>
  • Jaina: Hmph, just you watch.
Emoji Medivh Pack 1 Medivh Happy.png

Medivh

  • Jaina: The prophet Medivh. It is an honor to fight beside a mage of your caliber.
  • Medivh: One day, young sorceress, you will be the greatest mage of all.
Medivh was known to be an immensely powerful and skilled sorcerer, especially since he was granted the powers of a Guardian of Tirisfal (a sorcerer champion empowered to fight the Burning Legion) by his mother Aegwynn, the previous Guardian. During the Third War, Medivh appeared as a mysterious Prophet that guided the mortal races to unite against the Legion in Kalimdor. In the World of Warcraft manual, Jaina is stated to be the most powerful human sorceress alive, hence Medivh's comment.
  • Medivh: It's been a while, young sorceress, and yet I know I can still rely on you.
  • Jaina: I'll do my best.
After Medivh failed to convince King Terenas, Archmage Antonidas, and Prince Arthas to travel to Kalimdor to save their people, Jaina was the human who finally heeded the Prophet's advice. Jaina's response here is possibly a nod to the Warcraft 3 cutscene "Jaina's Meeting", where Antonidas sends Jaina to investigate the plague and she replies "Yes, master. I'll do my best."
Emoji Murky Pack 1 Murky Happy.png

Murky

  • Jaina: Hmm, if one murloc is here, there are more nearby, aren't there?
  • Murky: <Response indicating he is excited and ready to fight>
Murlocs like Murky are highly social creatures that are rarely seen alone. When attacked, they tend to retreat from battle to rally their fellow murlocs, who then swiftly and violently retaliate against the attacker, a behavior many players in World of Warcraft are painfully familiar with.
  • Murky: <Playfully questioning the person next to him>
  • Jaina: (laughs) Okay, that's kind of cute.
Emoji Sonya Pack 1 Sonya Happy.png

Sonya

  • Jaina: I freeze them, you mow them down. Sound good?
  • Sonya: Come, we will conquer this lot together.
  • Sonya: Well met, friend.
  • Jaina: Well met? Have you been hanging around Uther?
In Hearthstone, Uther's Greeting emote is "Well met!". This quote has subsequently become something of a meme, and the quote is now pretty distinctly associated with Uther, even being referenced by one of his level 13 talents in Heroes.
Emoji Sonya Deathbringer Pack 1 Deathbringer Sonya Meh.png

Sonya with

Death Knight skin

  • Jaina: Sonya, what happened to you? Is that a runeblade?
  • Death Knight Sonya: End your prattle, we have a fight to win.
Jaina is used to the regular Sonya, so seeing the corrupted death knight version of her is quite a shock. Runeblades are magical swords and the signature weapon wielded by death knights.
  • Death Knight Sonya: Hmm, so it is you.
  • Jaina: No, Sonya! Arthas will pay for this!
As a death knight of the Scourge, Deathbringer/Death Knight Sonya is in service to Kel'Thuzad, who in turn serves the Lich King Arthas.
Emoji Thrall Pack 1 Thrall Happy.png

Thrall

  • Jaina: It's been a long time since we fought together, Thrall.
  • Thrall: Indeed it has, Jaina.
Jaina and Thrall forged a close friendship while allying against the Burning Legion in Warcraft 3, which they continued to maintain even during hostilities between the Alliance and Horde, such as during the Battle for the Undercity.
  • Thrall: Jaina, it's been a long time.
  • Jaina: Nice to be on the same side for a change.
Emoji Uther Pack 1 Uther Happy.png

Uther

  • Jaina: Lord Uther. I'm so sorry about Arthas. If only I could've convinced him.
  • Uther: That guilt lies with me and I will live with it until my dying day.
Arthas, Jaina, and Uther (who served as Arthas' paladin mentor) fought alongside each other against the Scourge invasion of Lordaeron during the Third War, but neither Jaina nor Uther were able to prevent Arthas' corruption. Uther was later killed by Arthas, and is remembered as a great hero by paladins and by the Alliance.
  • Uther: Lady Jaina, it is a pleasure to fight by your side once more.
  • Jaina: You have no idea how much we've missed your counsel, Uther.
Emoji Varian Pack 1 Varian Happy.png

Varian

  • Jaina: My magic is at your service, my liege.
  • Varian: As always, I appreciate your guidance, Lady Jaina.
Jaina played a vital role in helping Varian return to his rightful role as King of Stormwind, and she continued to serve as an advisor and friend to him for years thereafter.
  • Varian: Stand together, trust each other, and our enemy will break.
  • Jaina: Now that's the king I remember.
Emoji Zagara Pack 1 Zagara Meh.png

Zagara

  • Jaina: Zagara. Just my luck.
  • Zagara: Silence! There is a battle to be won.
Emoji Zagara Crypt Queen Pack 1 Crypt Queen Zagara Meh.png

Zagara with

  • Jaina: So, the crypt mother has finally crawled out of her hole.
  • Zagara: Silence! There is a battle to be won.
  • Zagara: Ready, minion?
  • Jaina: Do not speak to me like that, insect!

Eliminations[edit | edit source]

Hero Quote Audio Background
vs. Arthas By the Light, find your rest, Arthas. After players defeat the Lich King in Icecrown Citadel and bring Jaina's Locket to Jaina, she has a short speech that ends with the line "By the Light, may he at last find rest, free from the icy grip of that terrible blade" (referring to the cursed runeblade Frostmourne).
vs. demon hero We will not suffer your kind, demon. Jaina has fought extensively against the demons of the Burning Legion in the past, mainly during the Third War.
vs. Garrosh You are undeserving of my mercy, Garrosh. Garrosh's warmongering was in direct opposition to Jaina's ambitions for peace.
vs. Horde hero If only we could've resolved our differences. Despite being on the opposing faction, Jaina always believed in peacefully coexisting with the Horde.
vs. enemy Jaina The cold never bothered me anyway. Reference to the 2013 Disney movie Frozen
vs. enemy Jaina with Dreadlord skin I would never become something like you! The Dreadlord Jaina skin depicts Jaina as a nathrezim demon; going by this quote, it specifically seems to depict Jaina having been corrupted into a demon, though it seems that some of Dreadlord Jaina's quotes might imply otherwise.
vs. Kael'thas That ought to set you back a bit. References the running gag "merely a setback", which originated from an intro speech held by Kael'thas when players face him as a boss in the Magisters' Terrace dungeon.
vs. Li-ming Where's that Li-ming smugness now?
vs. Muradin A warrior should know better than to tangle with a frost mage. In World of Warcraft, mages of the Frost specialization specialize in keeping enemies at a distance by slowing and freezing them, which makes them a natural obstacle for melee classes like warriors.
vs. Murky Oh, I think I got him for real that time!
vs. Overwatch hero Insufficiently advanced tech is more like it. Alludes to an adage coined by British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". Overwatch is set on Earth 60 years into the future, and so features various types of futuristic, highly advanced technology.
vs. Ragnaros Cool off, firelord.
vs. Thrall A pity you would not listen to reason.
vs. undead hero Back to the grave with you! Jaina fought against the undead Scourge during its invasion of Lordaeron and witnessed firsthand how it consumed the kingdom.
vs. Varian (sigh) Why won't you ever listen to me. While Jaina long served as Varian's supporter and ally, she often disagreed with him, particularly over his aggressive stance on the Horde. In the short story Varian Wrynn: Blood of Our Fathers, Jaina reflects that Varian doesn't make it easy to be his ally, much less his close counsel or friend.
vs. hero with kill streak Still a few tricks up my sleeves.
Generic I am not to be trifled with.
For the Kirin Tor! The Kirin Tor is an elite conclave of wizards that rule the nation-state of Dalaran. Jaina was a member of the Kirin Tor prior to the Third War, and after Theramore's destruction she rejoined the order as its leader following the death of their previous leader, Rhonin.
That should win us some time.
Why don't you chill out for a bit?
That's enough out of you.

What's the plan? Jaina Select quote in Warcraft 3.
Shh! I'm trying to think here. Jaina Warcraft 3 Select quote, later reused as one of Jaina's Select quotes in World of Warcraft.
All I ever wanted to do was study. Of course, then a giant demon smashed my home apart so that kind of put an end to that. One of Jaina's Wacraft 3 poke quotes and World of Warcraft select quotes is "All I ever wanted was to study". Jaina spent most of her early life studying with the mages of the Kirin Tor in the city of Dalaran, which was later destroyed by the demon lord Archimonde after he was summoned by Kel'Thuzad (though Jaina had already left Dalaran to flee across the sea with the survivors of Lordaeron when that occurred). However, Dalaran was later rebuilt by the Kirin Tor.
I wonder if my teleport spells will work here. Now, where'd that spell go.. Ah, here it is! Azeroth metrion zinthos! Wait... that's not right. Mages have access to a wide variety of teleportation abilities, such as being able to Blink short distances or open portals to various major locations around the world, with Jaina herself notably having developed a powerful variation of the Mass Teleport spell. The spell uttered by Jaina in this quote is a reference to the American animated TV series Teen Titans and the character Raven, who is known for her incantation "Azarath Metrion Zinthos"; in this case, the first word is replaced by "Azeroth", the name of the planet serving as the main setting of the Warcraft universe.
So forget what I said before – now is when things are getting weird. I mean, I saw a dwarf made of candy earlier. One of Jaina's Warcraft 3 poke quotes is "Things are starting to get a little weird", presumably referring to the player's incessant poking of Jaina. Here, it's more referring to the general bizzareness of the Nexus. The "dwarf made of candy" part probably refers to the Kandy King skin for Muradin.
Wait, is that a white hair? I hope that's not a bad sign. When Garrosh Hellscream dropped a mana bomb on Theramore, completely destroying the city and killing most of Jaina's friends and people, Jaina herself was saved at the last moment by being shoved through a portal by Rhonin. She thus survived the blast, but the bomb's explosion turned her eyes and almost all of her blonde hair a stark white. The Heroes of the Storm version of Jaina is from before the destruction of Theramore and the subsequent emotional trauma she suffered as a result.
Sure is nice to get outside once in a while. Feels like I've been cooped up in a tower for years. Throughout classic WoW and the The Burning Crusade expansion (a time frame that lasted around 2 years in lore and 4 years in real time), Jaina could only be found in-game as a static quest giver NPC at the top of her mage tower in Theramore. She started appearing in various other locations and storylines in Wrath of the Lich King, but she didn't really play any significant role in Cataclysm and was once again only found as a quest giver in the Theramore tower.
I wonder why they call it 'polymorph' when it always turns enemies into one thing. They should have called it something like 'monomorph' or ' that-spell-that-turns-people-into-sheep'. The original version of the spell seen on the Mage unit in Warcraft 2 transformed an enemy into different critters depending on the map type, such as sheep on forest maps, seals on snow maps, and boars in swamp maps. Furthermore, in World of Warcraft, mages can acquire various cosmetic items that alter their Polymorph's visual effect to transform a target into various other non-sheep animals such as monkeys, penguins, or porcupines, and the in-game book "Polymorphic Rules & Regulations" goes into detail about how mages can Polymorph others into a wide variety of creatures, though more exotic Polymorphs aren't allowed by the Kirin Tor and have often led to mishaps and botched spells.
I'm a sorceress, and a thumping good one, too. Reference to Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (both the original 1997 novel by J. K. Rowling and the 2001 film adaptation), in which Hagrid tells Harry "You're a wizard, Harry. [...] A wizard! And a thumpin' good 'un, I'll wager, once you've been trained up a bit."
Do you believe in magic, in a young girl's heart? Because you're encased in ice so you probably should start. Reference to the 1965 song "Do You Believe in Magic" by the American rock band The Loovin' Spoonful.
I put a spell on you, because you're mine. Reference to the 1956 song "I Put a Spell on You" by American musician Screamin' Jay Hawkins.
Let's just be clear: these aren't magic tricks, they're illusions. Tricks are something you do on Hallow's End for candy. Reference to a quote spoken by Gob Bluth in the pilot episode of the American comedy TV series Arrested Development: "Illusion, Michael. A trick is something a whore does for money. ...Or candy!" In the Warcraft universe, illusion is a school of arcane magic that allows mages to deceive reality, such as by making themselves invisible or trick opponents into fighting each other.
I'm sorry, what? Thrall and me!? Ugh, who keeps spreading that filthy rumor. Besides, everyone knows I prefer blue over green. Jaina and Thrall formed a close friendship during the events of WC3, giving rise to fan speculation that the two would eventually hook up. However, any possibility of romance between the two ended with the release of the novel The Shattering: Prelude to Cataclysm, in which Thrall instead met the fellow orc Aggra. Jaina's comment about preferring blue over green refers to the green skin of Thrall and other orcs, and the fact that she later started a relationship with Kalecgos, the leader of the blue dragons, who appears in his humanoid form as a blue-haired half-elf named Kalec.
Not to mention, the last two men who sought my attention both tried to take over the world. Yeah... I think I'd rather just study. Refers to Arthas and Kael'thas, both of whom were romantically interested in Jaina prior to the Third War. Jaina didn't reciprocate Kael's feelings and instead started a relationship with Arthas, though they later decided to end the romance so they could focus on their respective duties. Jaina and Arthas later worked together to invetigate the Plague of Undeath, but Arthas' commitment to stopping the plague from spreading caused him to resort to increasingly desperate methods, ultimately losing his soul, becoming a death knight of the Scourge, and destroying the very kingdom he had sworn to protect. In the end he became one with the Lich King of the Scourge, and years later he attempted to destroy all life on Azeroth until he was killed by adventurers. Kael'thas, on the other hand, ended up becoming a servant of the Burning Legion and attempted to summon the demon lord Kil'jaeden to Azeroth until he was killed by mortal heroes.
The Horde and Alliance can coexist, I've seen it! One single event could draw us together. The two major political factions of the Warcraft universe, the Alliance and Horde, have been at war on and off since the First War, but during the Third War they were convinced by the Prophet Medivh to band together with each other as well as the night elves to defeat the Burning Legion at the Battle of Mount Hyjal. After the Third War, the factions went their separate ways, and various conflicts and resentments sprung up again over the years. As a prominent member of the Alliance, Jaina always strived for diplomacy and peace between the two factions (at least until Theramore's destruction).
By the way, if you're holding on for a Frozen reference, just let it go. (gasps) Oh no, what have I done? Reference to the 2013 Disney movie Frozen (obviously) and the musical number "Let It Go". Blizzard tends to make a lot of references to the film given the similarities between Jaina (or just Frost mages in general) to Frozen's protagonist Elsa.
When my brother Derek was killed, my father swore an eternal oath to destroy all orcs on Azeroth. I always wonder how I would handle a loss like that. Honestly, I just pray I never have to find out. Derek Proudmoore was killed during a naval battle in the Second War against the orcish Horde while serving under his and Jaina's father, Lord Admiral Daelin Proudmoore. Daelin never forgot his son's death and became determined to exterminate all orcs, and during the events of The Frozen Throne he seized control of Theramore and attempted to invade the fledgling orc nation of Durotar. Unwilling to let her father jeopardize the peace between the Alliance and Horde, Jaina indirectly aided the Horde in killing Daelin, but she mourned his death nonetheless. Years later, when Garrosh destroyed Theramore, destroying Jaina's home, people, and most of her close friends, her opinion of the Horde completely shifted, making her more bellicose and willing to completely destroy the faction (though Blizzard has since gone back and forth a lot on Jaina's opinion towards the Horde).
