Alliance Hero |

Most goblins are happy to remain neutral and conduct equal trade with both the Alliance and the Horde, but goblins have traditionally had stronger ties to the Horde than to the Alliance.[1] | |

The Undercity is a subterranean city built in the sewers and catacombs beneath Lordaeron. Arthas originally ruled the place before Sylvanas took over. Since the current inhabitants of the Undercity and Arthas' minions are both undead, this is presumably why Sapper Junkrat mistakes Arthas as being from the Undercity.[1] | ||
|

||
|

Callback to Junkrat's quote "You hook 'em, I'll cook 'em!", which he uses in interactions with his crime partner Roadhog in Overwatch and with Stitches in Heroes of the Storm.[1] | ||

Gazlowe is probably one of the most well-known goblins on Azeroth. While he is a prominent member of the neutral Steamwheedle Cartel and the boss of the port town of Ratchet, he has a pretty clear bias towards the Horde, and his most notable accomplishments include overseeing the construction of the Horde capital city of Orgrimmar, helping the tauren leader Baine Bloodhoof retake the tauren city of Thunder Bluff from the traitorous Grimtotem tribe, and serving as the architect for the Horde garrison of Frostwall on Draenor.[1] | ||

Though some goblins have worked with the Alliance, goblins have traditionally had stronger ties to the Horde. | |

Thrall is one of the most famous individuals on Azeroth, being the founder of the modern incarnation of the Horde, who rose to liberate the orcs from human captivity, lead them to a new homeland in Kalimdor, and played vital roles in defeating the Burning Legion during the Third War, and killing the mad dragon Deathwing during the Cataclysm. He is respected by many, not just within his own faction, but in the Alliance and other organizations as well.[1] | ||
|
A number of World of Warcraft players consider Thrall their favorite warchief of the modern-day Horde, as his successors have either been warmongering tyrants (Garrosh), dark schemers mistrusted by their own faction (Sylvanas), or decent leaders who were killed off by Blizzard before they had a chance to accomplish anything (Vol'jin).[1] | ||
Warcraft 2 Hero |
|
The goblin race, and by extension goblin sappers, were first introduced to the series in Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness. The Second War is the lore name for the conflict that took place during the events of Warcraft 2.[1] | |

Hero | Quote | Audio | Background |
---|---|---|---|
vs. Alliance hero | Hah, classic! | ||
Lousy Alliance! | |||
vs. Skeleton hero | Hoo! Look at them bones fly! | ||
vs. E.T.C. | Killed an Elite. No loot. Typical. | E.T.C. is short for Elite Tauren Chieftain. Mobs that are considered "elite" in WoW are considerably tougher and more dangerous than non-elite mobs of the same level, and can thus often drop better loot than regular mobs.[1] | |
vs. Gazlowe | Uhh, sorry, boss! | ||
vs. Genji | Impressive engineering! Not good enough, but still... nice. | Genji was rebuilt as a cyborg by Overwatch. As an engineer himself, Sapper Junkrat recognizes and appreciates the advanced technology used to make Genji what he is today.[1] | |
vs. Horde | Sorry, gotta go where the money is! | Though the Steamwheedle Cartel allied with the Horde during the Second War, they later reverted to being neutral and trading with both Alliance and Horde since that turned out to be more profitable. However, the Bilgewater Cartel did later join the Horde and remains part of it to this day.[1] | |
vs. Junkrat | Wow, that guy was imbalanced. | Possibly a jab on how Junkrat limps with his prosthetic pegleg. | |
vs. Warchief | Oh man,, I just killed a Warchief. I'm in trouble. | The Heroes in the Nexus that have been Warchiefs are Thrall, Garrosh and Sylvanas. | |
vs. Weird hero | Whatever that was, it blew up real good! | ||
vs. Zarya | Grab that particle cannon! Oh... it's gone. | Refers to Zarya's weapon, which despawns along with her corpse when she's killed.[1] | |
vs. hero with kill streak | Blasted that killing spree apart! | ||
Generic | Goodnight. (laughs) | Sapper quote from Warcraft 2.[1] | |
Boom goes the seaforium! | Seaforium is a powerful explosive material used throughout World of Warcraft in everything from bombs to rocket fuel. Its name is a pretty clear reference to the real-world explosive C-4.[1] | ||
Look at all the little parts! | |||
Well, that's fun! | |||
Amateur. |

What? | Quotes from the goblin sapper unit in Warcraft II.[1] | |
Who is it? | ||
I've got what you need. As long as what you need, is a lot of explosives. | ||
Finally got my goblin engineering card last week, my mom was so proud. What? What do you mean it's useless? (frustrated scream) | When players with the Engineering profession in WoW chose to pursue goblin engineering, they used to receive a Goblin Engineer Membership Card, which was necessary in order to be able to purchase unique crafting recipes from engineering trainers. However, the card was removed in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion many years ago, and any existing cards still in players' possession have become worthless.[1] | |
That's it! I'm filing a complaint with Roxxik at the guild about this. <beat> It's dynamite... the complaint is dynamite. That should be obvious. | ||
Back in the day, I had these two friends. We were inseparable. Whatever happened to those guys? Ohhh, right. (Makes explosion sounds with his mouth) | In Warcraft 2 and 3, goblin sappers always consist of teams of three goblins working in unison. In World of Warcraft, however, sappers are usually seen as single goblins working separately, and of course, Sapper Junkrat is all by himself.[1] | |
Sapper? I hardly know her! ...Yeah, yeah, I'll see myself out. | A variation on the old "X? I hardly know her!" joke, where "X" is any word that ends in "-er", creating a sentence that can often be interpreted as a sexual innuendo.[1] | |
Everyone's always concerned with the blast radius. I care more about the blast circumference. | ||
One rat's junk is another rat's robotic exo-skeleton. My mom taught me that. (sentimental)I love you, mom! | ||
You hear about the goblin movie? It was a real box-office bomb. I mean that literally, the box office was a bomb. All that burnt popcorn. Sheesh. | ||
Goblin Law of Engineering number twenty-seven: Never build a bomb that you can't run away from. | ||
Goblin Law of Engineering number twenty-seven point five: If you can't run away, give it to someone you hate. | ||
Have you seen those treasure goblins running around? That... is an offensive stereotype. Goblins are not just obsessed with money, okay? We're also obsessed with explosives. | Treasure goblins are diminutive, treasure-obsessed demons from the Diablo universe first introduced in Diablo III, where they can be attacked for large amounts of loot before they open a portal back to their home realm. Warcraft goblins are mostly known for their love of money and their love for explosive engineering, but treasure goblins are really only interested in the former.[1] | |
By the way, goblin sappers don't deal "random damage". We deal consistent damage, randomly. | A reference to the Mad Bomber and Madder Bomber cards in Hearthstone, which deal damage to random targets. | |
(lights a fuse) You ever been fishing with a goblin? (throws something into the water followed by an explosion) Yeah, me neither. |

Delivery for... Rizzim... flizzim... | References to the recurring "Landshark" sketch from Saturday Night Live. Also callbacks to similar quotes used by goblin sappers in Warcraft 3.[1] | ||
Big money, no whammies! | |||
You get a grenade, and you get a grenade! | A reference to Oprah's famous 'You get a car, you get a car!' line which fits Sapper Junkrat's generosity in handing out explosives. | ||

Hearthing | Got, uh, things to do. | ||
Uhh, be right back! | |||
Respawn | I'm back? Well, that's new! | Sappers are usually suicide bombers that have a 'one-time' use in combat, and do not respawn, unlike in the Nexus. | |
Who or what to explode next? | |||
(coughs) Got the Black Lung now. | In real life, Black Lung refers to a build up of inhaled coal dust in the lungs, or Coal workers' pneumoconiosis. | ||
Did the jumper cables work? No? Okay. | Goblin jumper cables are a device that can be crafted by engineers in WoW. When used, they have a 33% chance of shocking a dead ally back to life (and a 66% chance of failing horribly).[1] | ||
Resurrected | Oh, thanks for the jump! | ||
Eh. Good looking out. | |||
Taunting | What's the matter? Chicken? | ||
(clucks) | |||
C'mere. I just want to give you a hug! | |||

Packs a punch! | |||
Yeah, baby! | |||

(Getting a kill after getting killed) |
Who's ya daddy? | In Warcraft 3, "WhosYourDaddy" was a cheat-code which made the player's units unkillable and let them perform one-hit kills. | |
Boom, baby! |

Strapped in! | ||||
The failure detection pylon worked! That's new. | A 'failure detection pylon' is an engineered item in World of Warcraft that resurrects nearby allies if they die shortly after the pylon is deployed. Though engineering items are notoriously unreliable, the pylon is interestingly not one of the items that can fail in the game, despite what Junkrat's quote implies. |
